We have been getting some much-needed moisture lately. Things are getting green, and we are no longer under a burn ban. It's nice and cool in the evenings. I enjoy this kind of weather. Hopefully the rains will continue.
I stepped outside yesterday evening in between storms to pick up a few things that were blown into the yard from the previous storm. Earlier in the day, I gathered up our empty gas cans to put into the car before we left to go to the gas station. We didn't make it to the gas station due to the weather. The cans were blown around the yard. As soon as I bent down to pick up a gas can lightning struck a less than a half a mile away.
I have a healthy fear of lightning. Number One Husband counted to seven before the thunder roared. I was back inside before he got to seven. My body was still in flight mode almost an hour later. I would have never gone outside in a thunderstorm. It is dangerous. There are approximately 530,000 cloud to ground lightning strikes on average every year in Colorado that result in about 2500 fires.
