Homemade Croutons

I eat these tasty cubes as a snack, in salads and in soups . They are so good. Croutons can be used in casseroles, stuffing or in meatloaf. They add a lot of flavor and texture to any dish. They are easy to make and you can bake them in the oven while you are baking another dish. For plain croutons just cube the bread and bake without oil and spices. If you need bread crumbs, just crush them up in a baggie with a rolling pin or use a food processor.

Croutons

Cubed Bread (Stale bread can be used)

Oil (I use peanut oil)

Onion Powder

Garlic Powder

Italian Spices

Salt

Cube the bread into 1 inch cubes. Sprinkle oil on bread cubes until lightly covered. Sprinkle spices until covered, then toss well. Bake at 325* until golden brown. I am heavy handed with the spices, but you can determine the amounts you like. Let cool and store in a plastic bag or in a jar with a lid.

Spices

Cubed bread tossed with oil and spices.

Toasted croutons

I baked them while I was baking tortilla bowls.

Croutons added to a salad.

Serve with your favorite dressing.

Enjoy,
Mrs. Smith
