The night before last we left our gate open. We haven't been closing it for the last few days. We should have been more careful with our security.
Potting soil was everywhere. |
The wind was really blowing, so we thought that the noises that we were hearing was just the wind. I got up and saw something through the window. It was on the porch. I ran back into the bedroom to tell Number One that something, not human, was on the porch. It sent adrenaline coursing through my body. I knew that the bear have been asleep for the Winter for a long time. I could not tell what it was and neither could Number One.
Once we figured out that it definitely was not human we turned on the light to find two wild burrows on our front porch. They had tossed around four planters and emptied them of their contents. All the potting soil was lost in the wind except for what I was able to sweep up off the porch.
They love to toss things in the air and play. Luckily, they did not do too much damage. They slowly meandered off once the light was on. I grabbed a large flashlight and a wide brimmed hat to get them away from the house. It was then that I realized that a herd of thirteen was inside our fenced area. I was not going to take them on in the dark. I just convinced them to stay away from the house.
They left plenty of evidence and tracks. |
This particular herd has four foals with them that are about five to six months old. They are so cute. The herd has learned to stop cars on the road to beg for food. I showed a picture of Momma and Pumpkin in the previous post. Pumpkin used to be able to squeeze in through our gate. We would have to open it up to get him out.
They were here a few weeks ago. |
They are friendly, but wild. They get excited and kick wildly. We stay on the right side of the gate if we interact with them. |
