Highly Contagious Variant Causing Shortages At Grocery Stores And More News: Here We Go Again

News stories are popping up once again about shortages at the grocery store and in other industries. You don't have to look very hard for videos or pictures of empty grocery store shelves. This is happening all around the world. It's not just the pandemic that has governments worried.

Africa's president called for prayer after drought has caused this years planting season to be delayed. In Cuba, people line up for hours just to get food to eat. American families are getting deeper and deeper in debt just to buy food.

It seems like there are more and more recalled foods than ever. It is affecting everything from meat to produce and everything in between.

There are issues with quality too. We are experiencing overripe and underdeveloped produce at the stores and are paying a lot more for it. We are so used to seeing perfect produce while the rest is tossed out. Not anymore. We will have to deal with smaller, bruised and overripe produce if we want to have it on the dinner table.

This is just some of the produce that is available at grocery stores.

Underdeveloped red cabbage.

The red cabbage weighed just 11 ounces.

6 ounces for 3 yellow onions.

That is a nickel to show the smallness of the onion.

The world is also experiencing a global potato shortage due to shipping delays and crop failures. There are many other crop failures due to droughts and flooding. China has bought up half of the worlds' grain crops for the last two years. Droughts and flooding are the main culprits for their crop failures. China has also turned prime crop land into industrial areas and now they cannot feed their people. This is sending prices soaring even higher. For us, in the United States, we just pay more right now, until we can't. In other poorer countries they don't have that luxury. They just do without.

Hunger is up too. 957 million people across 93 countries do not have enough food to eat. 239 million people are in need of life saving food to survive according to the UN. This was last years figures. This year doesn't look promising either.

Staffing shortages, mainly caused by the latest variant, have caused grocery stores and big box stores problems with re-stocking shelves and filling pick-up orders. FedEx announced  yesterday that packages will be late due to employee sickness mostly affecting packages being flown to their destinations.

We had almost 1.5 million new cases yesterday and record hospitalizations. Imagine all those people not showing up for work today. That is just one day's count. There are millions of people still out from last week. These missing workers span across every single industry.

Colorado announced new protocols for the second time for ambulance services. They may or may not show up and that they have the right to not provide life saving medical attention if they think there is no hope. They don't have to take you to the hospital to get the medical care that you need. They do not have enough workers. They are out sick and there are too many calls for help. How crazy is this? You may want to check the protocols that are in effect for your ambulance service and put off any potential hazardous activities like climbing on the roof of your house.

This is a really sad post, but I believe that we need to stay informed to make the best choices for our families. Stay safe out there...

Blessings,

Mrs. Smith
