Misfits Market - Review

We have been using Misfits Market for some time now. It is convenient and we don't have to go anywhere. It comes straight to our home via FedEx. The produce can be irregular in size, shape and color. I really have only noticed this a few times. As an example, I have gotten really small apples and really big apples in my box.

They also have pantry items that you can purchase. I have ordered several different items and have been satisfied with the price and quality of each item. The produce availability changes with the seasons. For instance, watermelons are no longer in season. My total for this box was $51.70. That's $46.20 for the box and $5.50 for shipping.

I think that I am basically getting organic produce for the price of Walmart or Sam's regular produce. In some cases it could be more or less. I also do not have to travel. I cannot stress enough how much time and money we save by not having to go to town. It's a long way for us to go to the grocery store. We save on gas. We cannot go to town and back for $5.50 in gas. We save the wear and tear on our vehicle. We are not tempted to make impulsive purchases in the store. All of this adds up and to be fair I have to add in all these hidden costs to determine the value of this service.

The box comes very well packed.

The food is insulated and kept cool with reusable ice packs.

I have added the price breakdown below, so you can determine for yourself if this service is a value to you and your family. Misfits Market also rewards it's customers for referrals. If you decide to try Misfits Market use this promo code for $10 off your first box. I also receive $10 off for each referral.  COOKWME-PK2OOTIXJJM

Let's unpack the box...

I bought several of the same items this time.

There was one odd shaped red onion out of three.

The limes had some discoloring.

The celery was awesome.

The green onions also looked great. I will be replacing two plants that I grow in my kitchen window. This should get us through most of the Winter.

Nice head of iceberg lettuce.

The Large head of cabbage also looks nice.

Number One does not like cucumbers, so I only bought one. It was .99 for one organic cucumber. Not bad for organic, but I do see inflation taking it's toll on just about everything  I do have to keep in mind that things are more expensive during this time of the year and take that into consideration when deciding what to buy.

Perfect broccoli. What produce I don't use I preserve. I try not to waste anything.

We enjoy sausage and rice stuffed acorn squash baked in the solar oven. This one is perfect for that.

The peppers were more expensive this time. This is an example of off season produce. It's hard to tell if inflation has had an impact on these, but I think it has since the price has risen so much on this item.

These are less expensive than Walmart's price and I believe that they are an overstock item like the pantry items you can purchase.

This honey was a good price and honey is one of my favorites. I look forward to trying this out.

I certainly hope that this review helps out those of you who have been curious about Misfits Market. If you decide to give them a try, please use my promo code COOKWME-PK2OOTIXJJM to save $10 and it also helps me save money too. Thanks in advance...

Homemade Potato Soup - It's Soup Time!!!

The weather finally cooled off this afternoon. It actually snowed on the peaks today. I absolutely love cool and cold weather. Don't get me wrong, I also appreciate when the long Winter is over, but it is still my favorite time of the year despite it's hardships.

I tried to capture the color of the aspens, but it has dried up so much in the last month that the colors will not be as bold as usual. It is brighter than the picture reflects.

I tried to usher in cooler weather by making soup earlier in the month, but it was not the same as eating it on a cold day and the hot weather prevailed anyway. For weeks now it was suppose to be cooler, but it just stayed hot despite the forecast. It started out 10 degrees hotter today than it was suppose to be. I was really disappointed this morning when I saw that the temperature had already gone past the forecast again.

Then the storm blew in and and everything changed. The temperature dropped 24* and all was well. It was soup time...

I decided on potato soup for dinner...

I peeled the potatoes and...

I boiled the peelings for a few minutes, so I could give them to the chickens. Chickens cannot eat raw potato peels, they are poisonous.

I added chopped onions and...

I added the onion scraps to the soup scrap bag that I keep in the freezer...

I put the potatoes and onions in a pot and added water...

I boiled them until they were tender...

I drained the potato mixture and mashed about half with a potato masher...

I added milk, salt pepper and onion powder...

I added a mixture of cheeses...

I reduced the mixture on low heat until the desired consistency was reached. We like our potato soup to be hearty.

I grow scallions in the kitchen window along with celery leaves to add flavor to our food...

I chopped up some scallions and...

I cooked some turkey bacon...

To use for soup toppings...

It turned out just perfect and...

Number One had it with crackers on the side...

This is a crowd pleaser and can be made in short order. It is an economical meal that is satisfying and can be served as a side dish or as an entrée. The ingredients can easily be changed or added to to reflect your own taste.

Enjoy,
Mrs. Smith
