Applesauce Pie

Applesauce pie, white and rye artisan bread

I had a large, opened jar of applesauce in the refrigerator that I needed to use up, so I started looking for recipes that use applesauce as an ingredient. I found a recipe for Applesauce pie. This was intriguing. I have never heard of an applesauce pie before.

Applesauce Pie

INGREDIENTS

9'-inch pie crust
• 2 eggs, beaten • 1 cup granulated sugar • ½ cup butter, melted, then cooled • 1 cup applesauce • 2 Tbs all-purpose flour • ½ tsp vanilla extract • 2 Tbs lemon juice • 1½ tsp ground cinnamon

Top with chopped nuts, optional

Mix the ingredients together, then pour into a 9'-inch pie crust. Bake in a preheated oven @ 350* for 45 to 50 minutes until the center barely moves.

This is an easy recipe. It comes together fast. I made my own crust, so it took a little more time. You can use a 9'-inch pie crust from the store, or you can try out my Flakey Pie Crust recipe:

Pie filling

Check out the link above.

Bake on a cookie sheet to avoid spillage in your oven.

Bake until the center of the pie barely wiggles.

You may need to use a foil tent to keep the crust from burning.

I can't remember where I found the recipe online to give credit where credit is due. Sorry and thank you whoever you are! It was fabulous!

I have enough applesauce leftover in the jar to make Applesauce bread. I will use my Grandma Ruby's Apple bread recipe and substitute applesauce for the chopped apples to finish off the jar.

You can find the recipe for Grandma Ruby's Apple Bread here:

We thoroughly enjoyed this pie. It was really good and simple to make. I hope that you give it a try...
