French Bread Recipe...

Ingredients:

2 1/2 C Very warm water
3 tsp Yeast
4 tsp Sugar
2 tsp Salt
6-7 C All-purpose flour

Egg Wash:
1 Egg
2 Tbs water

Prepare ingredients.

Mix sugar and salt with water. Add yeast and wait 5 minutes.

Mix 3/4 of the flour into the yeast mixture.

Start adding and mixing the rest of the flour until the dough forms a ball and springs back when pressed.

This is how much flour I had leftover. Use it to dust the countertop when forming the dough into loaves.

Cover and let rise 30 minutes.

Prepare baking sheet with parchment paper.

Did you know that you can buy reusable parchment paper?

Prepare egg wash and set aside.

I made Super Ramen while the dough was rising.

Yummy!

Punch down dough.

Cut dough in half.

Flour countertop with leftover flour.

Roll out dough the length of your pan.

Roll up into a long loaf. Press ends under.

Repeat...

Place loaves seam side down, cover and let rise 20 minutes. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Score the tops of the bread with a sharp knife.

Brush on egg wash on the tops and sides of the loaves.

Place loaves in a preheated oven and bake 20 minutes until golden brown. The loaves should produce a hollow sound when tapped on the bottom.

Let cool completely before slicing.

Store in a plastic bread bag to keep loaves soft and moist.

Enjoy,
Mrs. Smith
