In this day and age, living on less is on most people's minds. Inflation rules in almost every area of our lives. A few things may drop in price, but do you believe that corporations are going to lower prices? As crops continue to fail and or come in short of expectations, prices will continue to rise. Corporations are about money, not people. They may donate to a cause here and there, but it is mostly a political move to further their agendas. I can assure you that they do not care about the human race nor the damage they do to our world.
Unless people are able to make more money, things will remain the same or in some cases get worse. Every day we continue to see more reasons for price hikes across the board. How can people continue to survive under these circumstances? The lowest income households spend 30.6% of their income on food. How can they ever overcome this statistic? We live in one of the richest nations, yet we rank 22 in food insecurity. 33.8 million people don't have enough food. That is 13.5 million households that do not have enough food in their pantries. Something is really wrong.
Grocery stores, coffee shops restaurants, and the like toss out perfectly good food every day. No wonder the USA cannot feed their own people. No wonder the cost of food is so high. We are being charged for the foods that are being tossed out, so why not give it away? The corporations are not taking the loss. People are losing. Greed is powerful. Greed motivates people to kill, steal and let others go hungry. Shame on them.
I'm sure that most people have already cut out the extras or worse put the cost on high interest credit cards. Savings accounts have been decimated. Americans have spent a whopping $1760,000,000,000 from their savings since 2020. They also owe nearly a trillion in credit card debt, paying on average 20.69% in interest.
Like many Americans, our government is also paying 1.4 trillion dollars just on interest payments annually. In five years, interest on national debts will surpass defense spending. How can this be sustained? Can it be squeezed out of the American people when 33.8 million Americans don't have enough to eat? I don't have the answers to these questions. I don't believe that anyone has the answers.
Worrying is definitely not the answer. We can start by taking charge of our own financial condition. I recently wrote a post about Needs vs Wants No Spend Challenge. In this post, you will find ideas about reducing expenses and creating a budget based on needs. It's never too late to start no matter what condition your finances are in.
I know that finances can be daunting, but the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time. I want to encourage everyone to just start, do your best and be patient. It takes 30 days to develop a good habit. I have no idea how long it takes to rid ourselves of a bad one, but with persistence and consistency we can overcome.
