Jar is full, covered with plastic wrap and the lid and is ready for the long fermentation process. |
Glass Jar
Loose Fitting Lid
Plastic Wrap
Ingredients:
Apples
Cane Sugar
Raisins
Note: The amounts needed will depend on the size of the jar that is used. I used a two-gallon jar. Apple cores can be used to make apple cider vinegar recipe or fed to the chickens. You can find my recipe here: Raw Apple Cider Vinegar Recipe
Directions:
Quarter and core apples. Layer apples, 1/4 cup of cane sugar and a handful of raisins. Repeat until jar is full. Cover with plastic wrap and a lid. After a couple of days, the mixture will reduce. Repeat the layering process until the jar is full again. Cover with plastic wrap and lid. Store in a cool dark place for at least four months. Once the fermentation process is complete, remove first layer of apples from the top if needed and discard. Strain liquid from solids with a fine mesh strainer. Bottle liquid and cap. Store in a cool dark place. You can bake with the solids that are leftover, compost or feed them to the chickens.
