We had to head into town to pick up supplies like gasoline and prescriptions. We ran other errands too. Unfortunately, the state of Colorado has been experiencing a massive snowstorm. In November no less. We escaped the brunt of the storm, until this morning when we started receiving measurable amounts of snow, but we had to go. We usually avoid traveling under these circumstances.
I must say that it was a very pleasant drive considering the circumstances. We only saw one vehicle that slid off the road. We almost suffered the same fate, but I was able to let the car right itself without panicking. There are over 900 miles of road closures in the state. Semi-trucks were re-routed to our small mountainous roads. All of the drivers that we encountered on the road were cautions and courteous. This is also unusual, but there wasn't much choice under these conditions.

We put on our snow gear and prepared for the worst. I put my large bulky snow boots in the car. They are just too big and sometimes touch the brake and the gas at the same time. We already have our emergency winter car kit in place. |
When we got back home this is what greeted us. Number One Husband knocked the snow off with a broom. |
The emergency snow route had not been plowed. We avoided the pass by taking this route on the way home. |
This was the view from the gas pump. |
This was the back road we took in town to avoid the stoplight. It hadn't been plowed either. |
Snowplows had oncoming traffic backed up. |
This is the highway. The plows can't keep up. |
This is our road. Our tracks are the only ones in and out. FedEx was supposed to be here yesterday. They still have not showed up. |
We had some strange pink, blue and green hues at sunset last night. The snow was reflecting the colors from the clouds. |
It was strange to see pink, blue and green snow. |
I was glad to get home to our warm house. |
We are all tucked in for the duration of this storm. We will probably only get a foot of snow here, but other areas already have several feet. A state of emergency has been declared. This is an unusually early snowstorm. I don't think that they were prepared for the impact this storm would have. I really hope that everyone impacted by this storm is also safe, warm and cozy inside their homes.
Shabbat Shalom,
Mrs. Smith
