Shabbat Shalom - Learning How to Rest on the Sabbath

This week has flown by. I am ready for a rest. I have prepared our Sabbath meals and the house for the Sabbath. Now it's just a matter of preparing my heart, mind and body to rest. Preparing to rest is really a thing for me. I have busy hands and a busy mind.

When we first began observing the Sabbath, I struggled for months trying to not work.  I enjoy staying busy for the most part. If I see things that need to be taken care of, I take care of them right away before I forget about them or if I have an idea about food or a hankering for a treat, I start cooking or baking. Breaking those habits for the Sabbath was hard for me because I do enjoy having everything in its place. Cooking is a creative expression for me and it's also one way that I show my love to my family and friends.

It took me a couple months just to let it all go and to realize that all those little things that bothered me no longer bother me. If it was important, it would still be there after the Sabbath ended. Obedience and honoring my Heavenly Father is what truly matters to me.

I now look forward to the Sabbath every week. I am healthier and happier now that I have learned how to truly rest in the Lord. I have also benefitted by learning to let go and let God do His good work in me. It is truly a pleasure to rest in Him...

Shabbat Shalom,

Mrs. Smith
